So Beautiful People Vote Too- Don't Hate
Andrew Sullivan and a reader are a bit turned off by the Hollywood and Music stars making videos and public appearances in support of Senator Barack Obama. I have not seen will.i.am's latest video past the first 30 seconds because my DSL line is down and dial up makes it too painful. However, I will admit it did not grab me as the first video did.
Nevertheless Sullivan's post begins with a generation reclaims its country. Looking at it from that view, it is important to realize you have to connect to an audience with whatever floats their boat. No doubt music and videos capture the imagination of youth like nothing other than text messages and video games.
But it is important to keep in mind. At least as far as the first will.i.am videos are concerned the Obama camp had nothing to do with their creation. I was simply amazed that a speech given following an unexpected defeat (NH) could be so eloquent that it inspired the first video - which I LOVED.
Also, in fairness to those who are taking the time out to participate - keep in mind when we read the latest Britney Spears headlines with sick fascination - us poor ole regular folk complain about them not using their opportunity to contribute something other than a new DVD or CD to the country. So I applaud those, even those who fail to realize that Obama is the best choice - they are at least involved - and if they encourage their fan who wants to be just like - Oprah, Kate, Common, Scarlett - then so be it.
